Oh, you guys. I had no idea what I was in for when I came up with this wacky idea for a giveaway. All I can say is: Thank you!! You (all 338 of you!) have made this such a fun week. In fact, I think your hilarious comments kept me from reaching total pre-Christmas meltdown. : )
At any rate, McLurky thought there was a clear winner, and I couldn't agree with him more. So congratulations ....
Carin (diplofam)!
Carin didn't just comment, she actually wrote a song! Check it out:
"Baby's Got Backing" or "I Like Big Quilts"
Sung to the tune of "Baby's Got Back" ("I Like Big Butts") by Sir Mix-A-Lot
Lyrics by Carin Vogelzang
I like big quilts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with a brightly pieced top
and some 1/8ths she wants to swap
You get sprung, wanna pull out your stash
cause you know this stuff ain't trash
And then you see her binding
You wonder where she's finding
Oh, Baby I wanna get a charm pack
or do some stack and whack
My blog peeps tried to warn me
but that quilt you got makes me so horny
Ooh, and that fussy cutting
that is really something
Well, choose me, choose me
to be your blogging groupie
I've seen your HST's
and online quilting bees
Her seams are first class
as is her bias
I'm tired of the magazines
saying modern quilts are the thing
Take the average quilter's man
and ask him that
She gotta pack a nice backing
So fellas (Yeah!) fellas (Yeah!)
Has your wifey got the batting (Heck Yeah!)
Tell em to quilt it (quilt it!) quilt it (quilt it!)
Show that crazy quilt
Baby got backing!
Baby got backing!
McLurky has this to say about Carin's entry: "Anyone who can successfully combine Sir Mix-A-Lot and quilting surely deserves a prize of some sort. Also, it was dirty enough for me." High praise indeed. : ) I have this to say about Carin's entry: Brilliant! Hilarious! So deserving of the AMH fat quarters! Thank you for the laughs, Carin!
And FYI, when she's not writing quilting-related parodies of '90s rap songs, Carin runs the amazing charity Margaret's Hope Chest. They have a wonderful project called Wrapped In Hope, which provides birthday quilts to children of prisoners.
Carin has a long list of kids in need, and you can sign up to make a quilt for a specific child in 2011. In fact, I just signed up for one myself, and already have a vision of what I'm going to make for 12-year-old Alissa. What a great way to use our talents to make some deserving kids feel special. But back to my giveaway: There were many comments that made the hubs and I laugh, so I have to point out a few honorable mentions as well. No, you guys don't get a prize, just ... notoriety?
PDX Bride said: "I love those small squares you are cutting, are those pasties?"
Melissa's husband thought fat quarters were called "fatty quarts," and Hillbilly Handiwork's husband went into a quilt store and asked for the "Pop Tart" that they had on hold for her, instead of a turnover. Gotta love these guys, right?
Thanks to Madhatcher's comment, I don't think I'll ever look at a mug rug the same way again. : )
And finally, mabblab suggested that when I'm having a bad day, the hubs should get me a bundle of fat quarters instead of roses. I am fully on board with that plan ... McLurks, are you listening?
Thank you all for entering, and for making Giveaway Day tremendously fun! I wish I could reply personally to all of you! But you know, bad time of year and all. Carin, an email is on its way to you.

Okay, seriously? This is the funniest thing I've read in a long time:
ReplyDelete"Her seams are first class
as is her bias"
I will now be referring to bias binding as bi-ASS oh yes I will.
This was great! What a clever, cleaver lady! And what a great charity she has, too!!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your giveaway! (Even though I didn't feel clever enough to enter.)
Fantastic! A well deserved win!
ReplyDeleteHysterical! Thanks for re-posting the song in its entirety, I totally have to share this with my McLurky husband. Too funny :)
