Farmer's Wife—a Laid-Back Week 5

I had a couple of easy breezy blocks for Farmer's Wife this week.

Here's my "Box" block. The fabric stack that I'm using for this QA seems to be increasing with each week that goes by. The prints I used in this block are two of my newest additions. I wanted more prints that weren't florals or dots, but were still vintage-modern. These two definitely fit the bill. The blue plaid is from the Riley Blake "Hoo's In the Forest" collection, and is probably one of my favorite new stash prints! I definitely will have to pick that up in the other colorways. The yellow print is also Riley Blake, from the "Daydream" collection.

And here's block 2, "Bow Tie." Another quick and simple one. I told Elizabeth I wanted more pink in my blocks, so here it is! The hot pink is one of the "Sketch" prints by Timeless Treasures. I needed some near-solids in these blocks, and Sketch's crosshatch print was perfect. In fact, I snatched up the whole Sketch "Poolside" colorway from Fat Quarter Shop.

I thought I might try to make these blocks without using the templates, but when I tried to figure it out, the math was hurting my brain, so I decided using the templates was the lesser of two evils. And it worked out just fine, so I'm going to stick with templating from here on out, even if it's possible to do it without them.

  1. They look great!! I love when I peek ahead in the book and see easy breezy blocks coming up. I love that blue plaid, I'm waiting for my hive assignment for the 4x5 bee and then I think a trip to the good LQS by me is in order! Great blocks!!

  2. I love those Sketch prints. Definitely has to add them to my stash! Your blocks look great.

  3. You had to give me a link to those Sketch prints, didn't you?? ;) I think your blocks look super :) I especially love the way that Sketch fabric makes the green diamond in the center pop!

  4. Your blocks look lovely together, a really pretty colour combination. I've been eyeing off the Sketch bundle, now I'm going to have to make a purchase after seeing that block.

  5. These are beautiful! They look great together as a group.

  6. These look great Lee! It's so fun seeing your progress... and yeah, I am totally tempted by those sketch fabrics too.

  7. Those are cute!! I love the pink!

  8. Your blocks look great. I'm your 700th follower by the way!

  9. They both look great! I think I will have to make a Box block for my quilt too.

  10. I just got some Sketch today! Blocks are lookin good, Lee! Wow, you're going to keep up this and do the Summer Sampler? You're going to be learning a LOT of new blocks.

  11. More beautiful fabric combinations and perfect points to boot :-). Love these posts.
