Hey! I did some stuff this week. : ) Okay, no finishes. But progress, nonetheless.New project:
I cut fabric for this one, slapped it up on my design wall, and ... yellow light. Proceed with caution. It's just so freaking yellow. I know, I know—what did I expect after cutting up a yard and a half of the yellow print? Excellent question. But either way, I don't know how I feel about this. It's not that I don't like it ... it's just not what I envisioned. Nor does it go with any room in my house. Like, at all. But do those things really matter? Another excellent question. I'm going to keep pondering for another day or two. In the meantime, any and all design suggestions are welcome. (Click here for more info on Elizabeth's quilt-along.)
Yeah! I'm quilting! That means a finish may be eminent! Try not to keel over from the shock of it!

LEE!!! I LOVE the yellow!!! It really does look great! And YEA to quilting! I love that warm/cool quilt! Really cool! Happy WiP Wednesday!!
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow too. Proceed on green light. Pass GO. Collect $200.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, My first reaction when I saw your kaleidoscope quilt was, "Wow, I LOVE the yellow!" It was a fresh take on this quilt pattern. I'll look forward to seeing how it progresses.
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow too. Just about everything I make doesn't go in any room of my house, but I make them anyway, usually because I just love the colours.
ReplyDeleteLove the kalaedoscope! Thanks for hosting!
ReplyDeleteHi Lee! I love that warm/cool quilt! It's amazing how squares (triangles) can make so different view!
ReplyDeleteI'm not much for yellow either but I think yours is beautiful and sometimes we need sunny yellow. If you make borders with some other colours, it can fit anywhere!
xxx Teje
It is a very pretty yellow, and would probably make a great gift. Kinda bumble bee with the black thrown in there. Maybe add more black prints to tone down the yellow, and play up the bumble bee idea? Thanks for hosting as always!

I like the fabric you've chosen for the quilt along. The yellow is very striking
ReplyDeleteI know I've already given you my two cents, but I do really (surprisingly, since I'm not much of a yellow person) like the yellow. It just makes the quilt even more special. So, if it's not quite your taste, maybe it would make a great gift? I love that you're quilting your warm/cool quilt - I can't wait to see it!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lee, Thanks for hosting as always. You know, I am definitely a big yellow fan and I don't think you can have too much of it! :-) I'll be back to surf the list. Cheers, Riel
ReplyDeleteI think the yellow of your Kaleidoscope quilt is not too bright, it looks right, I like it!
ReplyDeleteYour warm/cool quilt is wonderful! Just stunning!
ReplyDeleteAnd the yellow is perfect for sunny summer days -- maybe even dark winter days, too! :-)
always interesting Lee...very nice
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow, but if you don't Love it, don't do it. Sewing time is too limited to spend on projects/colors that you aren't keen on. :)
ReplyDeleteYellow is my favorite color, so really love the yellow square you've got going
ReplyDeleteUn related to post, but curious...anyone know why my profile picture isn't showing up above with comment like it does for others?
ReplyDeleteSee what I mean, it isn't, then it is? Weird
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean about the yellow - it's so very...yellow. Mind you, that's not one of my favourite quilting colours, though, so I might be somewhat biased!

I laid DCMB's kaleidscope QAL out this evening, and I'm not sure about the colours anymore. it seemed better on paper than it does in the cloth...
I absolutely LOVE the yellow! But you're the one who has to live with it, so make sure you're happy with it.
ReplyDeleteI think you may like the yellow more as it comes together! I like your warm/cool quilt as well. I noticed you hit 99 twice. I kept cheering for 100 last week!
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow. Keep the yellow!! :D It might be one of those things that while you don't hate it, you're not super happy with... But it'll grow on you by the end.
ReplyDeleteWow, I really like the yellow Kaleidoscope!
ReplyDeleteI am still liking the yellow, but if it does not work for you, go on to plan B. This is a fun quilt, you should enjoy it when it is done.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I noticed when I saw the Kaleidescope blocks is that I really like the yellow--something I am not particularly inclined to say! I think it looks really good, and the gray helps balance it. Maybe using a gray binding and backing will help neutralize it a bit as well?
ReplyDeleteI love your yellow/gray Kaleidoscope. It seems to be the hot new color combo (relplacing red/aqua even?). I also don't think it matters if it "matches" your house. It's a quilt, they go with everything!
ReplyDeleteHappy W.I.P. Wednesday!
I really like the yellow! I am totally digging the yellow/grey color combo right now, and I'd say who cares if it doesn't match a room! Just think in the cold winters, its like bright sunshine! I'd keep going with it :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your kaleidscope blocks. The grays have muted yellow to a soft buttery yellow. Doesn't fit in your house? Gift it! I'd take it - just let me know where to send the cost of shipping - lol.
ReplyDeleteHonestly Lee, I saw your Kaleidoscope yesterday in the Flickr pool, and I LOVE the yellow, I know that it is a lot of yellow, but I think it is stunning! It also makes the other fabric "pop!"
ReplyDeletesuch a hot day outside I will be busy looking at all these links today inside in the A/C!

You are working on great stuff as usual! Funny, when I saw the yellow quilt I really liked it, but I once I read what you wrote, I guess it is yellow dominent. Looking forward to seeing how you proceed.
ReplyDeletep.s. I didn't link up the last two weeks... so here's to hoping I help push you over to 100!!
I *LOVE* the yellow!! The grays balance it so well. I'm a firm believer that all of our keeper quilts do NOT have to match the house. It's fun to have some contrast out every now and then, and over your lifetime, it's likely that it will actually fit in somewhere in some season. It's also a good chance that it will fill just the right spot for a particular special gift sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, your warm/cool quilt looks so inviting. :)
ReplyDeleteAs for your Kaleidoscope--perhaps if you alternated the gray Xs with gray +s? (My layout does that, with alternating where the dark fabrics and background fabrics fall within the blocks.) It would break up the yellow a little, and maybe not feel so overwhelming?
Hi I am new to this Link Party. I would like to join in on the fun. I will be out of town for a few weeks but am posting this week! Thanks for the encouragement! I love the new project i started a Yellow Blue and Grey last night too!
ReplyDeleteOh my blog is http://creativeinspiraciones.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI especially love the yellow you used in your Kaleidoscope quilt. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove your Kaleidoscope quilt. I've been thinking of using those colors for my bee month.
ReplyDeleteLove your kaleidoscope! As usual your work is simply stunning! Fi
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the kaleidoscope blocks! Very stricking!
ReplyDeleteLove love love the yellow and grey kaleidescope blocks! I wanted to do my Bow Tie blocks in grey and yellow but I don't have enough yellow in my stash so I went with red (which I also love).
ReplyDeleteYou've got lots of projects on the go...fun!
I want to make one of those warm/cool quilts someday. I'm going to go check out the instructions, other than the ones you give in the post you linked up.
ReplyDeleteI actually accomplished things this week....and with any luck will get a lot of material cut at least over this next week.
I'm not a yellow fan, but I really like yours...And I think I'm 100! WOooooo!
ReplyDelete100!!!
ReplyDeleteYou made it over 100! Woohoo!
ReplyDelete102!!!
ReplyDeleteSorry, I couldn't figure out how to insert your button into my post...
So much for being a techno savvy younger generationer! :-(
quilting looks goooood! ; )
ReplyDeleteWow, Lee... you amaze me every week with what you've achieved! Your work ethic and creativity put me to shame! :o)
ReplyDeletewow I love the yellow!!! but you have to do what is right for you. if you don't like it you can always donate it.
ReplyDeleteHi! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the yellow!! I think it looks great!
ReplyDeleteOne of my dreams is to make a pineapple quilt with yellow as its "base." So, I'm a two-thumbs up on the yellow, but really, only you can say. Photos always are different than real life.

Hi! I love the colors/fabrics in your kaleidoscope quilt. And personally, if it were a requirement for my quilt colors to match my home, I'd repaint. Frequently. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think the yellow looks great! But I also see how it might not work in every room... but hey, I am sure you will find a place for it, right? :)
ReplyDeleteI like the yellow a lot! I think your issue is that it's not what you expected, not that it's not pretty or nice. I'd let it percolate for a while and see what you think.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Blew past 100 links this week! I'm really loving your warm cool quilt, I want to do one of those.
ReplyDeleteI actually love the yellow in your kaleidoscope quilt, but I am a yellow fan. You know, if it doesn't fit at your house, I'd take it off your hands. Not that it fits in mine either, but I could find room for it! ;)
ReplyDeleteI really like the yellow in your kaleidoscope! Great choice.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors, but if you think it is too yellow, put your corner triangles on the yellow triangles instead of the colored ones, and it will give you a whole nother look, that you might like better, because it will break up the yellow even though your not replacing blocks, just moving the corner stones around.
ReplyDeleteLove your Warm/Cool quilt!
