Weekend Randomness and a Giveaway

Happy Monday! Here are a few shots from my weekend ...

We went to the Brewers game on Sunday, and THIS was my lunch. It's a "barbecue parfait." Layers of pulled pork, beef brisket, and mashed potatoes, garnished with barbecue sauce and chives. Yes, it was every bit as awesome as it looks. No, I couldn't finish it. McLurky polished it off for me. But I'll still need to go to the gym at least 15 times this week to make up for it.

And speaking of McLurks, just look at what my awesome goofball husband did. Yes, that is the scoreboard at Miller Park, and yes, it says "wonky & freshly pieced hexi blocks rule!" I love that it didn't occur to him to put something like, "Happy birthday to my beautiful wife." (My birthday was Friday.) Nope, not my husband. LOL. (Sorry about the cruddy iphone photo taken through the ball screen.)

Since I had such a fun weekend, let's kick Monday off right—I'm giving away some Aurifil thread! Have you used this stuff? I've only used Guterman's up until now—mostly because it's available at Joanne's. I mean, it's just thread, right? But having used Aurifil for a few weeks now, I get why people love this stuff. I've had no thread breakage or tangling with Aurifil thread, and I actually think less lint has accumulated in my machine since I started using it. Everything just seems to run more smoothly. And Aurifil is easier to get ahold of than I expected—I found a shop just 15 minutes away that carries it. Not much further than Joanne's, after all. Aurifil is also available on Amazon.

So, would you like to try some 100% Egyptian cotton thread? I've got trial packs with all four of Aurifil's thread weights, plus a spool of their wool thread, to give away. Just tell me what message YOU would put on the scoreboard at a major sporting event. What do you want the world to know? How much you love Aurifil thread? That your kid got an A on his math test? The awesome thing you had for lunch today? (But whatever it was, it won't beat the pulled pork parfait. Sorry.)

I'll randomly choose four winners on Thursday, Sept. 15. For more information about Aurifil and their thread weights, click here. Good luck!

  1. Hi. I am a new convert to Aurifil after seeing some of the buzz about it on the web. I must admit I love it - I have only used it for piecing at the moment but want to add to my thread stash with some of the other weights - would love some to try. As for the message on the scorboard? I guess it would be something to do with my family - maybe showing off my adorable niece who is nearly 2! Thanks C

    ReplyDelete
  133. That parfait looks like heaven in a glass to me. I'm alllll about the savoury. Aurifil definitely produces less lint than Gutermann - my machine loves it. (Don't enter me in the giveaway, though - I've got my own coming up!).

    ReplyDelete

Let's see, what would I put up on a scoreboard?
Maybe, "Smile at a stranger, they may be your next friend." Except y'know, non-creepily. :D

    ReplyDelete

  167. I've never tried Aurifil thread. Like you, I usually use Guterman because it's easy to find at the fabric shop.

On the scoreboard...I'd rather be quilting.

Yeah, I'd definitely rather be at my sewing machine than at a football game.

    ReplyDelete
  168. I didn't know Aurifil was available on Amazon! Great tip. I've been using Gutermann too, but my machine hasn't been liking it so much lately. I need to give this a try!

I pulled my Garden Fence quilt out of the dryer this morning, so I'd put "I just finished a Christmas gift" on the billboard. Cause I'm pretty proud!

(P.S. I need to find a barbecue sundae for lunch!)

  169. My son just started kindergarten. He desperately wants to be a super hero - a real one. He is afraid that if he becomes one that his teacher will not let him leave school if he needs to "save the day." I would leave a comment for him. Something along the lines of this - "Notice to all kindergarten super heroes: You are allowed to leave school if you need to save the day!" He loves signs and this would make his day. We have one sign in the living room that reads "No News" - this one went up when we turned the channel to watch the evening news yet again. Another is in the garage to notify us that snowmen are not allowed in the house – “They would melt mom.” No it cannot come down when it is 100 degrees out - it may snow you know. THANKS!
