WIP Wednesday #43

So, it's 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, and I completely forgot until about about 3 minutes ago that I need to do a WIP Wednesday post. : ) I guess between the three-day weekend, my daughter's first day of school (Tuesday), and my obsession with getting blue dye out of my hexy quilt, I completely lost track of what day it was. So, I am thoroughly unprepared this week, and this post will be light on content. But hopefully still heavy on the linky goodness. Bear with me.

Completed projects:

Do. Good Stitches Hexy Quilt - Yeah! Finished it. But it was not without its, um, challenges. You can read all about it here.

Ongoing projects:

My Connecting Threads contest entry
So this is obviously going to be taking up a lot of my time in the month of September. I have until September 30 to design 5-8 supporting prints for my focus print. I decided to begin the process by making a few changes to the focal. I tightened up the design elements, eliminating some of the negative space (click here to see the old version, for comparison's sake). I also worked on the color palette, because I wasn't happy with the palette in the original version. I tried out probably 10 or 15 different palettes before finally settling on this one. I'm still not sure I'm 100% thrilled with this, but I do think I'm on the right track. So at this point I'm going to start working on the secondary designs and see how/if the palette develops.

And have you checked out my Facebook page? There will be more about my design process showing up there, if you're interested. You can also find a shot of the focal print in repeat, as it would look on a fat quarter, which helps put the scale in perspective.

Skill Builder Sampler Quilt-Along - currently caught up
No block this week. Phew.

Farmer's Wife Quilt-Along - falling behind
Totally didn't do my blocks this week. Totally had other things going on. Oh well.

Completed tops awaiting quilting:
Secret Project - the top is done, and this quilt is gonna be yummy! Hint hint. ; )
Summer Sampler
Hope Valley

No progress:
Kaleidoscope QA
Figgy Pudding quilt
Wonky Log Cabin

This week's stats:
Completed projects - 1
Currently in progress - 9

Okay, WIP 'em out! Link up any post from the past week featuring an unfinished work-in-progress. Please don't forget to link back to my blog in your post, and comment on some of the other links. And as always, happy sewing. : )

Lee, I'm so glad you were able to get nearly all the dye out of the hexy quilt as it is fabulous! And yes, I have had a problem a couple of times with Alexander Henry (!) fabrics and it wasn't red or purple, which I'm always suspicious about, but turquoise!! And I could NOT get the color bleeding out! Eek--I'm so excited about Connecting Threads. Keep designing--you're on a good track!

I absolutely love the new colour palette! Can't wait to see the supporting designs...

Hi Lee! Your new quilt became really beautiful!
And your fabric design is wonderful - even better now! It will make a beautiful line if you make other supporting prints!

And I'll definitely be checking FB for more design progress, I really like the things you changed about your focal print. It's looking good so far!!

I love the "new" fabric - it's great with a little bit less negative space!

I like how you tightened up the design in your fabric. That will make it easier to use for smaller pieces in a quilt (already planning!). Can't wait to see what else you come up with!

Since I've been reading your posts as they post, and I already commented on the bleeding one (I lay awake last night thinking about that one), I just want to congratulate you on the new look of your fabric design. Fun to see the iterations as you work. Thanks for sharing them.

And thanks, also, for hosting WIP Wednesdays. Even on those busy weeks, it makes me get something in progress in order to post--a good motivator!

Oh wow! I'm impressed that you do your blog postings just after midnight! I always do my weekly posts when I get to them in the morning.
I didn't get any quilting in this past week. Today, however, I did finish my part of a top and I'm working on what I think will be a table runner. These will be able to be pictured for next week's post.

The colors in hex quilt are wonderful, bright, cheery and make me think of summer, even though (argh) it's waning fast in my neck of the woods. Haven't managed to get over here for a week or two, thought I might not today...barely made it before the end of the day......goodness 98 on your list.
