Winners, Winners Everywhere

It's time to announce the winners of last week's giveaways ...

But first, I want to thank each and every person who left such wonderful comments about my Cathedral Square block from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks. I'm so glad you all enjoyed this block! And I especially love that several people mentioned they're thinking of trying a modern-style quilt for the first time. I think the "modern-meets-traditional" aesthetic that I've embraced is a great starting point if you're considering a first foray into modern quilting, and that aesthetic is well-represented in this block. And as always, if you do make this block, I would love to see pictures of it in the Freshly Pieced Flickr group!

Second, a few people asked about how I make my quilt mock-ups (see my alternate layouts for the Cathedral Square block in this post). I use Adobe Illustrator for my mock-ups—as a former professional graphic designer, that's the program I know and own. But that's probably more than what most of you need. Lynne of Lily's Quilts is currently doing a fantastic series on using an iPad program called Touchdraw to make quilt mock-ups, blog headers, etc. There's a free version of Touchdraw you can try, and the full version costs only $8.99. The program is apparently being rolled out for Macs as well, if you don't have an iPad. Lynne's introductory post is here, posts about mocking up quilts are here and here, and here is her post about making a blog header.
