I made this Crown of Thorns block in June for Tiffany in the Stash Trad bee. She asked us to create an "explosion of color" in the outer HSTs, with the color from the inner ring carrying over into the fabric used in the outer HSTs. You can find the block pattern here, and go here to see the finished quilt top that Tiffany made with these blocks! It's so beautiful and colorful!
Next up, I made two paper-pieced yellow and gray paper-pieced stars for Kati, who had July in both of my bees.

So here's my Stash Trad block for Kati, using my own fabric. The pattern is from the book 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars

And here's my {Sew} Beautiful bee block for Kati, made with fabric she provided. This is also from 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars

And finally, here's a bright, fun Swoon block that I made for Erin in the Milwaukee Modern Quilt Guild bee. Would you believe this is my first Swoon block? I love it in these super-bright colors!
Great blocks! I love them all! And don't feel bad, I've still never done a swoon block. :)
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are fantastic! I love the paper pieced ones especially, such a beautiful colour scheme. I've resisted making a Swoon block up to now but my strength is waning by the day. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the Pennsylvania it is so beautiful! May have to check out the book!
ReplyDeleteThese are just so gorgeous! Very very well done! These are like my Holy Grail of piecing!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks!
ReplyDeleteWow! I love all your blocks, but those paper pieced ones are amazing - I could never deal with all those small pieces :) Good for you!
ReplyDeleteAre the pieced stars easy to put together? They look so intricate and beautiful!

ReplyDeleteOh! I love them all. Really great blocks.
ReplyDeletejust beautiful! I love those grey, yellow, and white fabrics! <3 I would like to learn paper piecing. I saw a tut on it, but the directions were just a little too much to follow in my head with no experience in it at all.
ReplyDeletethe crown of thorns is gorgeous and i love the color combo of grey and yellow....beautiful job
ReplyDeleteYour paper pieced stars are AMAZING!!! Great work!
ReplyDeleteLovely blocks. I have that book by Carol Doak, and I sometimes I have trouble seeing past what is on the page. Thank you for showing me some lovely examples in modern colors. I may have to dig that book out again and give it a whirl!
ReplyDeleteWonderful blocks! I especially like the Crown of Thorns...so bright and colorful!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Gorgeous! Now you have to send them away?! I hope you made a few extra for yourself :-).
ReplyDeleteI've not made a Swoon yet either. It's the contrarian in me, I think. :-p
ReplyDeleteLove these bee blocks!!
I love them all! - Beth
ReplyDeleteWow I'm loving those star blocks! The effect of them works really well with the brighter prints =D
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I love those star blocks, absolutely amazing! I definitely think Kati was onto something getting others to make enough for a quilt though ;o)
ReplyDeleteall amazing blocks! I'll have to check out that paper-piecing book.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your paper pieced blocks - both the designs and the fabrics you've used. I just have a bit of a touchy question. You know those little bits that don't quite line up?? I know that paper piecing is supposed to be the answer for accuracy, but I always find that when I go to piece the sections - I get those same freaking little bits that don't quite match up. I'm just curious about whether it annoys you, to have gone to all that effort and still end up with little annoying bits. (and I hope you don't mind the question - I promise - I didn't really notice them all that much).
ReplyDeleteHi, Lee. Just happened upon your blog. LUV your blocks and the fabrics and colors you use. So much energy! I enjoyed the visit.
