WiP Wednesday - Guest hosted by Kristy @ Quiet Play

Feathers Paper Pieced Quilt

Hello, my name is Kristy and I’m addicted to paper piecing. Addicted may even be an understatement. Just pop by my blog, Quiet Play, for proof. I’m starting to think the paper piecing posts are waaaayyyy outnumbering the non paper piecing posts. So I’m a bit excited to be guest hosting over here at Freshly Pieced (thanks Lee!) and sharing some of my paper piecing love. Naturally a couple of my current WiPs are paper pieced.

Close up Feathers paper pieced quilt

Like this quilt top I recently finished! 37 paper pieced blocks. I know there’s a flying geese option to make these kinds of blocks, but hey, why not paper piece it if you can? Plus! Hello crisp points that don’t happen quite as nicely when I try to make flying geese…The fabrics in this quilt top are all Sun Print Feathers by Alison Glass. I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them – and already had a plan and pattern drawn up for them when I ordered them. That doesn’t happen so often. The hardest part of this project was waiting the 3 weeks for the fabrics to arrive from the US!

Paper pieced Fairytale blocks

Some times I like to just get pretty fabrics and admire them for a bit, but these ones, they were put straight to work. Love, love, love.Another ongoing paper pieced project of mine (I did mention I like paper piecing a little bit right?!) is my fairy tales quilt. I recently made an epic paper pieced LEGO Star Wars quilt for my son… so now I’m making an epic paper pieced Fairy tales quilt for my daughter. All’s fair in love and quilts. The blocks were inspired by and made for my lovely friend Gina – she has her fairy tale quilt nearly complete! I have a bit of catching up to do!

Paper Pieced Little Mermaid

So far the quilt is only made up of 3 blocks. But I’m getting there. I’ve made Thumbelina, the Little Mermaid and Little Red. Sometimes it takes me longer to pick the fabrics to use than it does to actually make the blocks. Wish I was kidding.Don’t tell the other blocks but I think the mermaid is my favourite so far. Unfortunately my daughter is not of the same opinion. She was most put out that the mermaid did not have pink hair, or a pink tail, or sitting on a pink rock for that matter. She’s 3. I think that pretty much explains everything.

Fairytale Patterns by Kristy @ Quiet Play

While on the topic of the fairy tale blocks… I have started listing them in my Craftsy shop. I know there have been some –very- patient paper piecers waiting on these patterns – now the patterns are finally available! Rejoice, paper piecers, rejoice! Then get sewing!

But as much as I love my paper piecing… I do occasionally make other non-paper pieced projects too. True story. I thought I better produce some photographic proof of that. So here is my current non-paper pieced project… Very creatively named “Stars with Koi”.

Koi star 2

I’m using a fat quarter bundle of Koi fabrics (so pretty!) and the pattern is Starlit by Heather Mulder Peterson. I’m having a lot of fun putting these blocks together (even if it did cross my mind that I could totally paper piece these!)Here’s how they are looking so far in their own little Koi inspired constellation. I do love this pattern! So pretty! Pretty, pretty, pretty.

Koi blocks

So my friends, that’s how my current WiP list is looking! Thanks so much Lee for allowing me to pop over here and share my paper piecing mayhem! Feel free, quilty types, to drop by and share some of that madness at Quiet Play! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be off working on the next fairy tale block. Which likely will have to prominently feature pink…

What are you working on this week? Here are the linky rules:

1. Link up any post from the past week that features at least one unfinished work-in-progress (WIP).

2. Somewhere in your post, you must link back here to my blog. (Or grab the WIP Wednesday button for your sidebar.)

3. Comment on at least a few of the other WIP Wednesday links—commenting on the two or three links directly before yours works well to make sure everyone gets comments!
